Shows are up! 83 sometime ago and 84 now

Ah, vacation :)

But I’m back and ready to go! 83 has been up for a while, and 84 is up now. Big props to Anthony! You’ll have to listen to the show to find out why :)

Anthony, the Magnet is in the mail. It should arrive very soon.

It’s a shorter show this time round, but it’s up.

More soon!

New Year, New Directions for ESL?

Ah Yes, Yet another brilliant introduction. (You only have yourselves to blame) Hahaha. Feel free to give us a show opener through the MyChingo over on the side.

There are a couple of links to pass along. This one is for the EVO.

Here is a link for Net@Night. (Thank you again Amber and Leo)

Happy Holidays Everybody!

Show 81 takes a look at using dictionaries in the classroom. When should students use them? what is the best way to use them? What kind of dictionary should you recommend?

All this and an incredibly cheesy opening! Wow, a deal at twice the price!

**UPDATE**

I was thinking about dictionaries again and remembered this video I saw about a year ago. Erin McKean at the TED conference.

Dude vs. the Librarian – Show 80

Good Evening all,

Show 80 takes a bit of a look in the mirror and asks “What kind of teacher are you?” To be clear, there can be no right answer for this one, so make sure you can support your answer with examples. Don’t forget to cite your sources :)

By the time you see this, the show should be in your iTunes queue already. What’s that? you aren’t subscribed? Shame on you! get over there and get that done right now. Remember, the first 50 shows now reside in the “EdgyArchive” feed.

And before you go, don’t forget to leave us a message on MyChingo on the right there, or a comment below the show you listened to.

One last thing, tell all your friends!! Post about us on your blog or on other blogs related to ESL.

Research and Reading – Show 79

The conundrum that faces new folks in the field, should I try to fit all the newest research into my classroom?

Tune in to find out!! This week we ramble on about the new teacher vs. research. It also counts for those of us who have been around a while. I actually cite a paper in the episode only to realize that it was the wrong one!! the actual paper that I refer to is:

Rankin & Becker, Does Reading the Research Make a Difference? A Case Study of Teacher Growth in FL GermanThe Modern Language Journal, 90, iii, (2006)

A nice little case study about the topic at hand. I don’t want to spoil the ending so you’ll have to listen to the show!!

Holy Cow!!

I am behind two shows?

Say it ain’t so!!!

Well, the good news is 77 has been up for a while and 78 went up today.

Links at the bottom of this post as always. But here is a bit of a news update.  Between the election in the US and the time change also, the recording of the shows has been a bit on the precarious side. (hope I spelled that correctly, and YEAH New President soon!) We are still shooting for the weekly shows, but lately it has been tough to hit that mark. We are still striving to keep up that pace as much as possible, but we ask for your patience and support while we flounder around a bit.

Truely, Thank you for all your support over the last couple of years. We both really appreciate it. We do have a favor to ask though. We want to start getting a few more interviews, the have been a bit rare lately and we definitely miss doing them. Of course our format for them will probably be a bit different, but hey, progress right?  So, that favor…. Tell us who you want us to try to interview. Go crazy, anybody related to education is fair game. Also, what do you want us to ask?

We’re looking forward to hearing from you, leave us a note in the comments or a voicemail over at MyChingo there on the right or even a video comment! :)   Thanks for helping out!  Now on to the regular stuff at the bottom of the show posts :) -S

Show 76 has been up :) 77 will be around at the beginning of next week

The YouTube project is going well!

I am trying an experiment with the pacing of the posting of shows…… You believe that right? Of course you do, it wouldn’t be just because I was just slow…..

Teacher Training vs. Grey’s Anatomy – Show 72

We’re back!!! look out! (ok,ok, out of order, deal with it)

Yes, we are full force, still messing with the audio. We are almost there, but still have a few yards to go for the first down. Lots and lots of news in here, or at least a little news and lots of rambling about it.

When we finally get down to business we look at teacher training and how methods are taught.

Drop me a note or comment if you have any questions!

Show 73

The short 73 is up!

It is only about 15 minutes and is primarily a sound test as well as a new round up.

I was worried about the levels, but I have been told that the episode is actually safe for headphones.

so enjoy that one!!
